Thomas More: A Portrait of Courage
By: Gerard B. Wegemer
Facilitated By: Bob Atwell, president & CEO, Nicolet National Bank

From Amazon.com
One of history's most admired figures, Thomas More stands as a model of courage, integrity, fortitude, and other virtues. As a highly successful lawyer, diplomat, and father of a large family, he sacrificed everything that the world holds dear for what his conscience dictated was a principle that could not be sacrificed.

The Catholic Church recognized his heroic virtue and holiness by making him a saint along with Bishop John Fisher on the 400th anniversary of their martyrdoms in 1935. This new biography details the hidden spiritual life of More. What motivated his spiritual struggle? How did his writings open a window into his inner life?

The 2008-2009 Read to Lead schedule with a list of facilitators and book selections can be obtained by clicking here. It is not required that you have read the book, simply that you enjoy the conversation. RSVP to Brian Johnson is requested this year due to limited space.

Ambassador Program
Current is actively seeking members who would like to participate in a newly created program aimed at working with new members and prospective corporate members.

Current ambassadors will be responsible for the recruitment and retention of individual and corporate members. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining relationships between Current and other outside organizations. Ambassadors will go through regular training to ensure they are knowledgeable about all facets of the organization.

This will be a 3-5 hour commitment per month. This includes time spent at events with new members, meeting with new members and prospective corporate members and presenting to local organizations.

If interested, email Brian Johnson for more details or call 593-3408. At this time we are establishing an interest list. Co-chairs Anthony Steffek and Chad Heath will host an informative meeting in November/December to discuss more details.

Volunteer Center Halloween Ball
Current member Troy Streckenbach of Jimmy Seas/Marco's Seafood Club/Stir Ups has extended an offer to quickly acting members. He has purchased a table of 10 to the Volunteer Center's Halloween Ball scheduled for Saturday, November 1, 2008 starting at 7:00 pm. Entertainment by Big Mouth and the Power Tool Horns. Costumes encouraged but not mandatory. This is a great way to help Troy support a much needed organization in Greater Green Bay.

Tickets are normally $30. Per Troy's generosity and the support of his above mentioned businesses, the first 10 people who notify me will receive complimentary admission. Due to the limited number of tickets, I'd like to limit to 2 free tickets per person up to the first 5 that reply (10 tickets total). Additional tickets may be purchased by contacting Sue Premo at the Volunteer Center at 429-9445 or by visiting any area Festival Foods or Bosse's News Store. Click on the link below for more details.
